The history of the neighborhood
In the early years of the 20th century , Neve Tzedek was a poor neighborhood that inhabited many accomplished Israeli artists and writers including Agnon, the Israeli author who won Noble prize for literature.
For many years, the neighborhood remained poor and was quite forgotten about. Only in the 80s, the establishment of many restaurants, bars and galleries has turned things around for the area.
Places to Visit in Neve Tzedek
- Suzanne Dellal (6 Yehieli Street) – one of best attraction that Neve Tzedek has to offer – a amazing, historical building is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Suzanne Dellal is the home of famous Bat-Sheva dance group. If you're interested in modern dance and local culture, this place has a very rich program.
- Nachum Gutman museum, also known as the House of Writers (21 Shimon Rockach street ) – Israeli renowned authors Yoseph Chayim Brener , Yoseph Aharonvitz and Deborah Baron used to live in this residence.
- The Rockach house (36 Simon Rokach Street) - An historical building that was restored in late 80s.
Anyone who visits the neighborhood should take a long walk down the main street of Neve Tzedek – Shabazi street. On Shabbazi Street you can find unique galleries, café shops, art and designers shops and many other attractions. You can easily spend an entire day in this gorgeous area.
